Depreciation: common questions

What does depreciation per year mean on a Singapore car listing?

It is the yearly cost of owning the car: roughly the price minus whatever you get back when its COE ends, divided by the years of COE left. It is the number to compare cars on, because two cars at the same price can cost very different amounts per year.

Is the car with the lowest depreciation the best buy?

It is the best place to start, because it shows what each car really costs you per year. Then add the things it leaves out, like fuel, insurance, road tax and servicing, and look at the car's age, mileage and history. Ask us and we will go through any car on this list with you.

Why can a luxury car cost less per year than an everyday car?

Usually because it is a COE car: its COE has been renewed, so you only pay for the years left and there is no PARF rebate built into the price. That is how you can drive more car for the same yearly cost. Younger cars hold more of their value, so both can be good buys, and we have both.

How often is this list updated?

It is built from the cars we have for sale, so it changes whenever a car is added, repriced or sold. The depreciation shown is the figure on each car's own listing.
